About the Role
Stratford District Council is recruiting for a Governance Advisor & Executive Assistant to join the team. You will be responsible for providing high-level executive support and governance advice to the Mayor, Chief Executive, Senior Management and Elected Members. You will coordinate and manage Council meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, providing advice to Elected Members and staff ensuring compliance with legislative requirements. You will also support the Chief Executive and Mayor with professional executive assistance including diary management, correspondence and civic events. This position is full time (40 hours per week) and will be located at the Stratford District Council, Miranda Street, Stratford.
Responsibilities
* Provide high-level executive support and governance advice to the Mayor, Chief Executive, Senior Management and Elected Members.
* Coordinate and manage Council meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and advise Elected Members and staff to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
* Support the Chief Executive and Mayor with diary management, correspondence and civic events.
* Work full time (40 hours per week) at Stratford District Council, Miranda Street, Stratford.
About You / Qualifications
* Strong background in local government, with a solid understanding of the democratic process and the importance of well-executed governance support.
* Experience working closely with elected members and senior leaders; ability to confidently provide governance advice and high-level executive support in a political environment.
* Ability to manage committee agendas and minutes; familiarity with NZ Standing Orders, LGOIMA, and the machinery of council decision-making.
* Appreciation of the importance of good process, clear communication and attention to detail to ensure robust and transparent governance.
