Offer description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the IPC team at UCLH. The IPC CNS will collaborate with staff across UCLH sites to improve IPC practice and reduce hospital-acquired infections.

The post holder will provide leadership, mentorship, and line management to junior team members, as well as peer support to other Band 7 IPC CNSs. This role requires collaborative working with the IPC team and healthcare personnel across the Trust. Working alongside IPC Consultant Nurses, Senior Nurses, IPC CNSs, the Director of Infection Prevention & Control (DIPC), and the IPC Team, the post holder will help shape IPC policies and ensure their implementation into practice.

The IPC service includes Trust-wide management of isolation prioritisation to aid patient flow while maintaining safety. The post involves working with coordination and operational services on decontamination, building regulation compliance, and developing education and audit programmes. The post holder will spend approximately 70% of their time in clinical areas providing education, training, and advisory support; and 30% on project work and classroom-based teaching.

Main duties of the job

1. Providing a proactive approach to infection prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control, including reviewing, formulating, implementing, and educating on evidence-based IPC practices in line with national and Trust policies.
2. Offering expert advice to multi-professional colleagues, patients, and carers on IPC matters.
3. Contributing to measures aimed at reducing infection incidence.
4. Developing systems and processes to support IPC objectives.
5. Collaborating with clinical teams to implement, monitor, and measure IPC compliance.
6. Leading clinical audit processes, evaluating outcomes, and disseminating learning.
7. Developing and delivering educational and training programmes for all disciplines.
8. Acting as a patient advocate, providing compassionate leadership, and ensuring high standards of patient care.
9. Leading the development and review of IPC policies and guidelines.
10. Managing the day-to-day running of the IPC team under senior guidance.
11. Serving as a line manager and mentor for junior IPC team members.
