In this role, you'll provide expert legal advice on complex competition and regulatory matters to senior stakeholders in the UK, while also supporting BT Group's activities in other jurisdictions. You'll lead on delivering risk-aware, solution-focused input across a range of commercial initiatives, working collaboratively with colleagues in business, finance, strategy, regulatory affairs, and legal. You'll also partner closely with BT's Regulatory Affairs team and, where appropriate, lead interactions with Ofcom and other regulatory bodies, ensuring robust compliance with the Commitments between BT, Openreach, and Ofcom.

What you'll be doing

1. Lead strategic legal projects and provide expert UK and EU competition and regulatory law advice, acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders across BT.
2. Identify legal risks and opportunities to support BT's strategic agenda, ensuring compliance and implementing corrective actions where needed.
3. Engage with external stakeholders including Ofcom, competition authorities, and customers, and lead on contentious legal matters including litigation and appeals.
4. Deliver training and develop best practice guidance on competition and regulatory law, while mentoring junior team members and managing cross-functional project teams.
5. Support the Commitments Assurance Office in monitoring BT and Openreach's adherence to regulatory commitments.
6. Champion BT's values and collaborate across the business to drive positive outcomes.
7. Qualified Solicitor with relevant PQE experience.
8. Deep expertise in UK and EU competition and regulatory law, with broad legal knowledge and commercial awareness.
9. Significant experience in legal practice, ideally gained in law firms, in-house teams, regulatory bodies, or relevant courts.
10. Proven track record in leading competition and regulatory litigation, including proceedings before UK and European authorities.
11. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess complex markets and deliver creative, risk-aware legal solutions.
12. Experience presenting legal issues to senior stakeholders, including at Board level.
