Design Manager
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 + Package
An established and growing main contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale commercial projects ranging from £12m-£25m, within a business that has clear growth plans through to 2027.
The successful candidate will come from a main contracting background and have strong experience managing the design process on complex commercial schemes.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring designs are compliant, buildable, cost-effective, and delivered in line with programme requirements.
Your first project will be a 46-week programme on a major commercial development, offering immediate involvement in a flagship scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and coordinate the full design process from tender to handover
* Lead and manage external consultants and design teams
* Ensure timely production and release of design information
* Liaise closely with commercial, planning, and site teams
* Manage design risk, value engineering, and change control
* Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, employer's requirements, and industry standards
* Support pre-construction, procurement, and technical submissions

* Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contracting environment
* Strong background in commercial construction projects
* Experience managing consultants and multiple stakeholders
* Good understanding of construction methodology, procurement routes, and commercial drivers
