SYSTEM TEST ENGINEER
We build world-leading RF spectrum monitoring and geolocation systems used by defence, intelligence, and security organisations worldwide. We're looking for a System Test Engineer to validate the real-world usability, performance, and robustness of these systems — ensuring that what works in the lab also works in the field.
This isn't a software QA role. It's about thinking like a user, operating at the system level, and stress-testing complex hardware-software-firmware combinations as they'll be deployed by real operators.
If you've worked in technical support, lab environments, or field integration, and you're ready to step into an engineering role — this could be your perfect next move.
What you'll be doing
* Test CRFS systems end-to-end, focusing on how they perform in real-world use.
* Validate GUI-based control applications and embedded firmware across multiple product variants.
* Conduct regression testing during firmware and software releases.
* Reproduce, triage, and document issues in the bug tracking system, collaborating closely with engineers to drive fixes.
* Build and maintain test racks integrating CRFS hardware with third-party RF test equipment.
* Support the upkeep and evolution of the System Test Lab and its infrastructure.
* Ensure all testing aligns with CRFS's Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
* Contribute to test plans, campaign documentation, and internal reports that shape product quality.
What you'll bring
* Degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent hands-on experience in lab, support, or test environments.
* Strong attention to detail and a “break it to improve it” mindset.
* Comfortable with Linux-based systems and command-line tools.
* Clear and structured communicator — you can document bugs precisely and explain behaviour clearly to engineers.
* A user-first perspective — you spot UX glitches, edge cases, and inconsistencies others miss.
* Curiosity about complex systems spanning hardware, firmware, and software.
* Drive to learn, experiment, and grow into deeper technical ownership.
Nice to have
* Experience in hardware or embedded systems testing.
* Basic Python scripting for test automation or data analysis.
* Familiarity with bug tracking or test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail).
* Exposure to RF systems, networking, or spectrum analysis tools — training provided.
Not what we're looking for: Pure SDETs or software-only testers, candidates seeking isolated or code-only testing work, or anyone who doesn't enjoy hands-on testing.
