Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: Upnor, Medway
Salary: £44,246 – £50,076 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week (rota basis)
Contract: Permanent
Medway Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join the team at one of their Ofsted-rated "Good in all areas" children's homes, nestled in an acre of stunning grounds in Upnor. The home provides a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for up to five children aged 11–17, with a strong emphasis on stability, wellbeing, and individual progress. The Role: As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the leadership and daily operations of the home, ensuring a consistently high standard of care and safeguarding for the children. You will play a vital role in:
Leading and supervising a committed team of residential care professionals
Promoting a child-centred, therapeutic approach to care
Ensuring compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards
Supporting staff development through coaching and reflective practice
Acting as a role model and upholding the home’s ethos and values
Helping drive continuous improvement and positive outcomes for every child
What We’re Looking For:
Previous experience in a leadership role within a children’s residential care setting
NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – Level 5 desirable or willingness to work towards it
A strong understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed care and child development
Excellent leadership, communication and team-building skills
A passion for improving the lives of children and young people
