Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer (Space Systems Quality Assurance)
About the Role
Capgemini Engineering is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to support one of our key clients at their Portsmouth facility. The successful candidate will lead the recovery of a critical build area currently facing a high rate of non-conformances and delays.
In this role, you will be responsible for driving quality excellence, restoring process discipline, and coaching our clients’ engineering and production teams on effective quality management processes and recovery planning. This is a hands-on, high-impact consultancy position suited to someone who thrives in complex, high-reliability engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the quality recovery of an underperforming build area, implementing corrective and preventive actions to address recurring non-conformances.
Ensure full compliance with client NC processes, including timely investigation, high-quality root-cause analysis, and robust documentation.
Coach and support client teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality) to strengthen their understanding and execution of NC and quality processes. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify and resolve process gaps or weaknesses.
Analyse quality trends and metrics to identify systemic issues and drive improvements in NC cycle time, manufacturing yield, and process flow. Facilitate and lead problem-solving activities using recognised quality tools (e.g., 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys).
Act as a Quality / Manufacturing Engineering quality expert embedded within the clients’ environment. Validate adherence to build documentation, manufacturing standards, and configuration rules.Provide Capgemini with regular updates on progress, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Quality Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace, defence, space, or other high-reliability manufacturing sectors.
Direct familiarity with Defence and Space processes and systems, particularly NC management tools.
Strong understanding of space industry manufacturing, including satellite build, cleanroom operations, and high-reliability assembly practices. Demonstrated capability to lead recovery activities and stabilise problematic production areas.
Excellent coaching and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to influence without authority with strong grounding in quality methodologies (8D, FMEA, RCCA, process audits, etc.).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict configuration, documentation, and compliance requirements.
Clear communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
Desirable Qualifications
Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related engineering field.
Previous experience working in the space sector or major aerospace / defence organisation.
Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt or similar qualification.
