Role Requirements:
* Proven experience in metadata management and data governance within highly regulated environments.
* Strong understanding of GDPR, PII, export controls, and protective markings.
* Ability to work within Azure-based ecosystems and integrate emerging services.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Acts as a business analyst with deep data governance and metadata expertise.
* Lead the design of the programme-wide metadata schema that must scale across all nations.
* Engage with business users, legal teams, and security/export-control specialists to understand how data is classified and what restrictions apply.
* Capture existing metadata requirements from stakeholders and harmonise them into a single structured model.
* Consider and design for GDPR, PII, UK and international government protective markings, export control rules, and the EU AI Act.
* Define controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and metadata categories needed for compliant data sharing.
* Work closely with Data Custodians and Data Governance Deputy to ensure metadata and policy frameworks align.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with metadata management tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
* Knowledge of data modeling and enterprise architecture principles.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) for metadata integration.
