An established property business is looking for an ambitious and proactive Property & Utilities Finance assistant to join their finance team in Birmingham city centre. This is a unique opportunity for someone with experience in property and utilities who is keen to take ownership, improve processes, and work in a growing SME environment.

Your new role
Utilities Management (Core Focus)
You will take full responsibility for the utilities function across amercial property portfolio, including:
1. Managing all utility accounts for multiple properties (setting up, closing, switching suppliers, and overseeing renewals).
2. Reviewing, validating and processing all utility bills (energy, water, waste) and ensuring accurate allocation of charges.
3. Monitoring meter readings, investigating anomalies, and liaising with suppliers to resolve billing discrepancies.
4. Coordinating new service connections, disconnections, and ensuring smooth handovers during tenant changes.
5. Maintaining up‑to‑date utilities data within internal systems (Qube MRI) and ensuring accuracy andpliance.
6. Identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, and streamline data capture or workflows.
Finance & Operations Support (Broader Responsibilities)
Alongside the utilities function, you will support the wider finance team with day‑to‑day activities such as:
7. Purchase Ledger: Processing supplier invoices, handling queries, and supporting month-end payment runs.
8. Assisting with service charge budgets, utility forecasting, and cost analysis for the property portfolio.
9. Supporting month-end processes, including reconciliations and producing simple internal reports.
10. Helping improve financial processes, documentation, and system workflows.
11. Providing cover and support across transactional finance areas during busy periods.
12. Getting involved in systems development and efficiency enhancements within Qube MRI.
What you'll need to succeed
13. Experience working in a propertypany, ideally in a finance, property management, or utilities-focused position.
14. Previous exposure to utilities administration (energy, water, billing, or meter management).
15. Strong administrative and organisational skills with high attention to detail.
16. Confident using finance/property management systems (experience with Qube MRI is a strong advantage).
17. A proactive, analytical mindset and willingness to improve processes and adopt new technology.
18. Enjoys problem solving and thrives in a varied SME environment.
19. Tech‑savvy, data‑driven, andfortable identifying improvements.
20. Collaborative team player with excellentmunication skills.
