The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead the development and execution of our commercial strategy. Reporting into the senior leadership team, this role is responsible for driving profitable growth, strengthening key customer relationships, and leading a high-performing sales function. The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to leadership and business development. Key Responsibilities Sales Strategy and Business Growth * Develop and implement a sales strategy aligned with wider business objectives. * Identify opportunities to expand into new markets, customer groups, and sales channels. * Lead the annual sales planning process, including forecasting and budget preparation. * Monitor market developments, customer trends, and competitor activity to support informed decision-making. * Deliver agreed revenue, margin, and profitability targets. * Drive customer acquisition while increasing retention and account development. Customer and Commercial Management * Build and maintain strong relationships with major customers and commercial partners. * Lead negotiations on significant agreements and commercial terms. * Ensure a high standard of customer engagement across all stages of the sales process. * Support initiatives that improve customer experience and long-term value. Leadership and Team Development * Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to the sales team. * Set clear objectives and performance measures to maximise effectiveness. * Create a culture that encourages collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. * Identify development opportunities and contribute to succession planning within the department. Cross-Functional Collaboration * Work closely with colleagues across operational, financial, procurement, and marketing functions to ensure alignment on priorities. * Contribute to pricing decisions, promotional activity, and new product initiatives. * Act as the voice of the customer internally, ensuring business decisions reflect market needs. Reporting and Performance Analysis * Prepare regular reports and forecasts for senior stakeholders. * Analyse sales performance data and identify opportunities for improvement. * Monitor expenditure and manage budgets effectively to maximise return on investment. Candidate Profile Essential Experience and Skills * Significant experience in senior sales leadership roles, ideally within food manufacturing, FMCG, foodservice, wholesale distribution, or similar sectors. * Demonstrable success in delivering sustained commercial growth. * Proven ability to manage and develop strategic customer relationships. * Experience leading, motivating, and developing sales teams. * Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and commercial planning. * Excellent negotiation and influencing skills. * Commercially aware with sound financial understanding. * Results-oriented with strong strategic capability. * Effective communicator with confident presentation skills. * Able to interpret data and convert insights into practical actions. Desirable * Professional qualifications in sales, leadership, or business management would be advantageous.
