We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal Construction Manager to join our esteemed team working with Staffordshire County Council. You’ll be based across our key locations in Gailey, Lichfield, Stone and Leek. Collaborating closely with our client, Staffordshire County Council, Amey takes pride in delivering top-tier construction and infrastructure services across the local road network. Our Highways business in Staffordshire undertakes major civil engineering works, structural repairs, safety improvements, preventative maintenance, Routine, reactive and cyclical maintenance as well as environmental enhancements, ensuring the network remains safe, efficient, and sustainable. As Principal Construction Manager, you will play a pivotal role in senior leadership team, overseeing the successful delivery of complex construction projects, structural maintenance projects, preventative maintenance and bridge repairs. You’ll ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices while driving innovation and sustainability. This role demands strong commercial acumen, exceptional stakeholder management, and a commitment to health and safety. The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week with regular travel across Staffordshire and on-site presence. What you'll do: Project Leadership: Lead and manage construction & maintenance teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget. Programme Management: Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of construction and maintenance works, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations. Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and health and safety regulations. Budget Control: Manage project budgets, cost forecasting, and financial reporting. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Staffordshire County Council, local authorities, Developers and supply chain partners to maintain strong relationships and clear communication. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing proactive measures to avoid delays or incidents. Innovation & Improvement: Promote best practices, new technologies, and sustainable construction methods. What you'll bring: Extensive experience in senior construction management roles within highways or civil engineering. Chartered Status is desirable. Strong knowledge of construction standards, regulations, and contract management. Proven ability to manage large budgets and complex programmes.
