Role Overview
Join our dedicated Children’s Social Work team in Wigan as a Qualified Social Worker specialising in the Drugs & Alcohol Team and in Fostering and Children in Care (CIC). You will assess the needs of children and families affected by substance misuse, deliver intervention strategies, and support vulnerable children and their families to ensure their safety and well‑being.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct timely and thorough assessments of children and families in need of support.
* Collaborate with partner agencies to gather information and develop effective safeguarding plans.
* Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice standards.
* Provide expert guidance and support to colleagues and other professionals involved in safeguarding processes.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case records and documentation.
* Assess the needs of children and families affected by substance misuse, implementing effective intervention strategies.
* Develop and implement tailored care plans for children in foster care and in the Children in Care (CIC) system.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with children, families, foster carers, and other professionals.
* Provide guidance and support in fostering and CIC contexts.
Qualifications
* A relevant social work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
* Current registration with Social Work England.
* Proven experience in safeguarding and child protection.
* Strong analytical and assessment skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to working collaboratively.
