The Humanities team is situated in the same block, allowing the team to work closely together. We have state of the art smart boards in each of our rooms and access to a central computing area. At Outwood Academy Carlton you will find an extremely supportive and close faculty, who are excited to welcome a new colleague to our team. Geography: Geography helps you make sense of the world around you. As a team our goal is to create students who have a curiosity for the world around them and want to make it a better place. As Michael Palin said "geography students hold the key to the world's problems". We love our subject and are keen to develop the geographers of the future. At KS3 we study a 3 year curriculum, we cover a wide range of exciting and engaging topics such as Why is our World Amazing, How diverse is Africa, to local issues such as Should the council build MU2 and MU3. Fieldwork is extremely important to our department, we are in the process of introducing a range of new field visits and local studies to our curriculum. At GCSE we follow AQA. The units we cover are Paper 1: Natural Hazards, Living World (Hot Deserts), Coasts and Rivers; Paper 2: Urban, Economic Change; Resource Management and Water; Paper 3: Pre-Release and Fieldwork. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards. This professional must be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, alongside possessing a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area. The role requires maintaining high expectations for all students and effectively communicating with students and their parents, both orally and in writing. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department, and demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches. Qualifications Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4. The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
