Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Respiratory Consultant to join our expanding team. We welcome candidates with a variety of interests and skills who are keen to contribute to and further develop our broad range of respiratory services. Our department offers specialist services in asthma, TB, interstitial lung disease (ILD), and cancer diagnostics, and runs interventional procedures including bronchoscopy lists and dedicated pleural clinics. Responsibilities
* Work with existing consultants and the multidisciplinary team to provide a high-quality, well-led service for patients at Ashford & St Peter's, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients in accordance with Trust policies and practices.
* Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department, assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload.
* Maintain continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and undertake the administrative duties associated with their care across five days.
* Be part of the GIM on-call rota during the rotation in St Peters.
* Ensure safe handover of patient care as appropriate.
* Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co-workers to deliver department objectives: provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience; ensure the highest quality clinical care.
* Actively participate in and support other staff with education, research, audit and clinical governance activities involving a multidisciplinary workforce across the department.
* Participate in the professional training of staff in the department, both medical and non-medical, and contribute to teaching sessions for hospital staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduate staff, including supervision of junior medical staff.

Job description
The Job Plan has 7.9 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) PAs and 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) organized on an 18-week rota, plus 1.1 PAs for GIM work. The rota allows consultants to alternate busy and less busy days to balance workloads. The majority of DCC involves the Respiratory ward, an in-reach service to the Clinical Assessment Unit, general Respiratory and cancer clinics, and coverage of pleural and bronchoscopy procedures. The job plan section in the JD is indicative for the current staffing of eight consultants; a specific plan will be agreed with the appointed consultant and reviewed annually or on request.
Qualifications and requirements
* Qualifications
o Full registration with the General Medical Council
o Medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent)
* Experience
o Extensive clinical experience managing the full range of respiratory conditions (e.g., COPD, asthma, lung cancer, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease, sleep apnoea)
o Substantial NHS experience
* Clinical skills
o Ability to independently assess, investigate, and manage complex respiratory cases
o Ability to supervise and train junior doctors and allied health professionals
