SEND Teaching Assistant
Milk Education are working with a welcoming primary school in Ponteland who are seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This long-term role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, both within the classroom and through targeted small-group or 1:1 support.
This position is ideal for someone with a passion for making a meaningful impact on the learning and wellbeing of children with SEND.
What We’re Looking For
You do not need a formal TA qualification, but you must have:
1. Recent experience (within the last 5 years) working with children, ideally including some SEN exposure
2. A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
3. Good communication and relationship-building skills
4. Confidence working with children who may have:
5. Autism / communication needs
6. Speech & language delays
7. Social, emotional, or behavioural needs
8. Mild to moderate learning difficulties
9. A flexible and positive attitude
10. Willingness to follow SEN strategies under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
Your Responsibilities May Include:
11. Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs
12. Running small-group interventions
13. Adapting learning activities to suit individual needs
14. Supporting communication, social skills, and emotional regulation
15. Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in lessons
16. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff
17. Helping create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
