Main duties of the job

To be responsible for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all the Multi disciplinary Teams, Carers, Hotel Service Staff and General Public. To provide a friendly, clean and comfortable and safe environment for patients and staff, ensuring a positive service user experience that reflects the values of Summerhill Supplies Limited (SSL) and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT).

To work as a member of the Hotel Services/Ward team by contributing to the provision of a comfortable and effective stay for patients. To be responsible for overseeing that the ward is clean and tidy, that patient's food is delivered correctly, that repairs, maintenance, linen services and consumables are available to contribute to a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.

Job description

General

* Responsible for ensuring, in conjunction with the ward team, that cleaning standards meet the agreed levels, and that shortfalls are dealt with quickly. Assist with cleaning and catering tasks as described in works schedule.
* Keep day area, dining room and interview rooms clean, tidy and welcoming for patients and visitors.
* Clean patients en-suite bedrooms; keep them clean and free of clutter, and ensure the ward is tidy.
* Assist with curtain changes throughout the ward in line with Trust policy.
* Clean and equip en-suite bedrooms after discharge for the next admission.
* Wash and store patients’ personal clothing appropriately.
* Order consumables and other supplies, store them correctly and rotate stock.
* Assist nursing staff in cleaning medical equipment.
* Attend mandatory and non-mandatory training as required.
* Be responsible for all patients meals, snacks and beverages, including special diets, adhering to standards and procedures.
* Ensure ward complies with Trust Food Hygiene policy (fridge temperature) and report any non-compliance to Clinical Managers.
* Be aware of infection control procedures and carry out relevant training.
* All staff are responsible for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and controlling infection per policy.

Professional

* Engage in the Trust appraisal process to identify development and training needs.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with data protection policy.
* Report equipment issues to Helpdesk and maintain records of reports and follow-up actions.
* Report pest control issues to the appropriate supervisor/manager.
* Answer telephones in the absence of nursing staff.
* Safeguard welfare and safety of staff, patients, visitors and the public by implementing policies and procedures relating to security.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

* Essential: Level 2 Housekeeping Diploma or NVQ 2 in Support Service or equivalent; Level 2 Food Hygiene.

Desirable:

* NVQ2 Customer care, COPC Certificate, Infection Control.

Knowledge and Experience

* Essential: Previous housekeeping/support services experience; understanding of good food hygiene; ability to deal with complaints.

Desirable:

* Previous experience in housekeeping/support services; food service experience.

Skills

* Good verbal and written communication; literacy and numeracy; initiative; ability to work alone or in a multidisciplinary team; ability to report and feedback effectively.

Personal Qualities

* Drive and enthusiasm; calm disposition; empathetic; ability to prioritise tasks.

Other

* Flexible and adaptable; able to work unsociable hours; able to work across SSL/Trust sites; full clean driving licence; good attendance record.
