Main duties of the job
Adoption West is a Regional Adoption Agency and registered Voluntary Adoption Agency commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire Councils. The agency provides services including:
* Recruitment and assessment of prospective adopters
* Family finding services for children requiring permanency via adoption
* Post-adoption support services
* Services to birth families and adopted adults

We have a vacancy for a part-time Support Worker in the Birth Links team, primarily serving the Gloucestershire area.

Job responsibilities
Specific duties include:
* Act as the front door for the adoption service, responding to enquiries, providing advice and support, often in complex situations
* Assist social workers in assessing support needs of adopted children and their families, gathering relevant information, and engaging families at times of crisis
* Work collaboratively with families, considering the impact of trauma, separation, and loss, to support positive parenting and attachment
* Undertake direct work with adopted children and young people to promote their identity and wellbeing
* Maintain accurate case records as per policies
* Contribute to multi-agency meetings, developing support packages tailored to individual needs
* Provide direct support to families, reporting safeguarding concerns as needed
* Support the different needs of birth and adoptive families during contact facilitation and supervision
* Disseminate up-to-date information on services, legislation, and research to adopters and guardians in Wiltshire
* Lead in facilitating Letter Box arrangements, managing challenging negotiations
* Organize and facilitate social events and training for adoptive families and guardians
* Participate in team meetings and contribute to service development
* Assist in the Home Finding process by liaising with social workers and carers to prepare profiles of children
* Travel as required for home visits and family meetings
* Perform other duties as directed by the Adoption Manager
