Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer – Glass, Seals & Finishers to be based at our customer’s site in Gaydon.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
As the Lead Engineer for Glass, Seals and Finishers, you will be responsible for the end-to-end technical leadership of glazing systems, sealing solutions, and finishing components across multiple vehicle platforms. This role demands deep expertise in materials, design integration, supplier engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver premium quality, performance, and aesthetic standards.
Area of Responsibility
Technical Leadership:
1. Lead the design, development, and validation of glass (windscreens, side/rear glazing), sealing systems (weatherstrips, gaskets), and finishers (trim, moldings) from concept to production.
2. Own and drive engineering deliverables across all program phases (Pre-PS, PS, VP, Job 1).
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
3. Interface with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Vehicle Engineering to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
4. Support virtual builds, physical builds, and launch activities across global sites.
Supplier Management:
5. Lead technical discussions with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, ensuring alignment with performance, cost, and timing targets.
6. Review and approve DFMEAs, DVPs, and PPAP documentation.
Innovation & Sustainability:
7. Champion new technologies in glazing and sealing (., acoustic glass, flush glazing, recyclable materials).
8. Drive sustainability initiatives in material selection and process efficiency.
Quality & Compliance:
9. Ensure all components meet regulatory standards (FMVSS, ECE, and internal quality benchmarks.
10. Lead root cause analysis and resolution of field issues and warranty concerns.
Knowledge / Experience
·Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Automotive Engineering or related discipline.
·Proven experience in automotive body systems, with a focus on glass, seals, or finishers.
·Strong understanding of GD&T, CAE tools, and PLM systems (., Teamcenter, CATIA V5).
·Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams and supplier engagement.
·Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Attributes
·Experience with premium or luxury vehicle programs.
·Knowledge of advanced sealing technologies (., active seals, encapsulated glass).
·Familiarity with global homologation standards and testing protocols.
