To provide the highest standard of nursing care to all patients under the care of the Advanced Kidney Care Team undergoing renal treatment/support and thus contribute to the overall efficiency of the renal service.
To be accountable as line manager for a team of specialist nurses and others.
Ensure the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered to all patients.
Ensure a robust service with cross cover within the renal nurse specialists including anaemia management.
Main duties of the job
Support the client/family emotionally and practically in the outpatient/inpatient home setting, in regards treatment options available with a patient with advanced kidney disease.
Provide patient/family/staff education in regards different modalities of treatment. This includes haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home therapies and supportive care.
When a decision has been made not to have dialysis or to withdraw from dialysis the individual should ensure the client/family understands the implications of not having dialysis or stopping treatment.
To develop the service in line with clients needs and requirements using best available evidence.
To undertake the role of nurse prescriber within the advanced kidney care setting, therefore should be a competent Non-Medical Prescriber.
To initiate and implement change effectively in response to clinical and/or organisational demands.
To take responsibility for the supervision and management of the specialist nurses within the advanced kidney care team.
To work independently and autonomously without direct supervision.
Ensure the client makes an informed choice about whether they continue to choose not to dialyse; act as the client advocate at all times.
Plan clients follow up appointments with both the nurse and doctor at timely intervals.
Participate in the education of pre and post-registered students and other learners.
Participate and support set up of Nurse led Clinics for the Advanced Kidney Care Team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Register on part 1 of the NMC register with current NMC registration.
2. Degree in Nursing Studies
3. NMP qualification
4. APACS qualification
5. Teaching/Mentoring qualification/or relevant experience within an Advanced Kidney Care role
Experience
Essential criteria
6. Extensive post qualification experience as a Band 6 working in an advanced kidney care setting
7. Current experience in a advanced kidney care setting for at least 2 years
8. Experience in regards supportive care management
9. Experience managing a nursing team
10. Knowledge of regional and national policies relating to renal care.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
11. Hold UK driving license
12. Excellent organisational and time management skills
13. Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the patient
14. Highly motivated
