About the role:
As decommissioning activity continues to expand across both bp-operated and non-operated assets, robust technical decision-making, effective onboarding, and strong oversight of both bp and outsourced operations are essential to safeguarding the companys reputation and maintaining high operational performance.
The Senior Wells Engineer Decommissioning plays a critical role within the Wells Decommissioning team, taking responsibility for overseeing the technical and strategic elements of decommissioning planning and execution. This position works in close collaboration with Regional and Non-Operated Joint Venture (NOJV) teams to ensure alignment with established procedures, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective delivery of decommissioning activities.
This role presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to global decommissioning operations in line with bps strategy for wells and facilities, supporting the companys commitment to safe, efficient operations and sustainable performance within the energy sector.

Key Accountabilities:
Provide deep technical support and assurance to regional teams ondecommissioning plans, methodologies, regulatory compliance, andabandonment designs.

Underpinned by shown decommissioning experience (with North Sea Decomengineering and execution experience in the first instance) the role shallsupport the Projects and Regions in the selection of an external Decommissioning Operator by providing technical guidance into defining evaluationcriteria, scope definition, and interface alignment.

Support the delivery of Wells Financial Memos (FM) and Authorization forExpenditure (AFE) documents for wells decommissioning activities to ensurealignment with budgetary, regulatory, and procedure requirements.

Deliver a systematic and controlled approach to onboarding third party Decommissioning Operator, underpinned by a detailed understanding ofoperational and business risk, and risk preventions / mitigations to anacceptable level, prior to successful operatorship handover as per bp andlegislative requirements (with UK Decom experience in the first instance).

Provide technical guidance during the execution phase to ensure delivery of decommissioning liabilities is consistent with the regions strategic intent,regulatory expectations, and bps internal assurance processes. (including butnot limited to Foinaven, Clair, Magnus fields)

Support the Lead Senior Wells Decommissioning Engineer as they conduct knowledge sharing and collaborationwith industry peers, service providers, and academia to stay abreast of latest,decommissioning methodologies, technologies, and standards.

Stay updated on current well decommissioning technologies, supplier capabilities, and industry trends to provide guidance and support to implementingteams and advise decommissioning strategy.

Collaborate with the Technology team to identify and support technologiesthat enhance decommissioning safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Provide strategic input and mentorship to the North Sea regional team indeveloping Area Development Plans (ADP) and late-life planning activities toensure proactive decommissioning preparation.

Where appropriate support the wider team as they engage with NOJVpartners to influence decommissioning estimates, late-life planning, andexecution strategies to optimize cost and mitigate risks.

Essential Education and Experience Requirements:
Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.

Strong technical background with extensive experience in well Engineering, particularly in plug and abandonment activities.

Demonstrable leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Experience in cost estimation, and regulatory compliance within the oil andgas industry.
