Job Description
New Directions Education are recruiting for a hardworking and motivated individual to work as a School Caretaker, to support local secondary in Caerphilly schools with long and short-term positions.
Due the nature of the roles being temporary, all applicants must be flexible, reliable and willing to work in different schools in the area.
The working hours are full-time, (e.g. 8am – 4pm or 10am – 6pm), with some requirement to work during school holidays.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall upkeep, maintenance and security of the grounds and premises. Previous experience in maintenance, trades work, health and safety or construction work is essential.
Duties will include:
1. Opening the school in the morning and locking up at the end of the day
2. Ensuring the doors, gates and windows are locked when the building is not in use
3. Carrying out daily checks of heating, boiler, and alarm systems
4. Carrying out day to day maintenance and minor repairs throughout the school
5. Organising external contracts for major work
6. Cleaning duties such as emptying bins and litter picking
7. Dealing with lettings, arranging chairs and tables for meetings, and clearing away afterwards
Essential experience for the role:
8. An awareness of health, safety, security, and hygiene
9. An excellent practical knowledge
10. Previous experience in a maintenance, trades, or repairs position with transferable skills
Desirable experience for the role:
11. Previous experience as a school caretaker
12. Experience carrying out legionella testing.
