Job overview
The Managerially accountable to the Divisional Director of Operations, and professionally accountable to the Divisional Director, the General Manager for the Trauma, Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Directorate will be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership to ensure high quality patient care, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
The General Manager will lead the Directorate in delivering national access standards and local specialty ambitions within the allocated funding, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. Developing collaborative working within the sector and beyond will be key to optimize capacity and ensure seamless patient flow between Trusts.
Additionally, the General Manager will work closely with colleagues within the Trust to influence strategic decisions both within the Trust and across the North West London sector.
Main duties of the job
* Develop and implement effective reporting arrangements to monitor performance against targets and manage variances proactively.
* Provide regular reports to the Executive Directors with assurance on follow-up actions.
* Support Lead Clinicians, Lead Nurses, and Service Managers through regular performance review meetings.
* Manage systems, control processes, and risk management arrangements to support compliance with clinical governance standards, Trust policies, and best practices.
* Handle resolution of complaints, conflicts, and issues from patients, staff, suppliers, and partner organizations promptly and appropriately.
* Support root cause and trend analyses of complaints and adverse incidents alongside clinical staff.

Education/Qualification
* First degree or equivalent
* Evidence of specialist knowledge at higher degree or master's level
* Extensive NHS knowledge in the acute sector, with up-to-date knowledge of patient services; CPD evidence
Experience
* Success in delivering large-scale change and performance improvements via management and clinical teams
* Experience in writing comprehensive business cases and policies
* Experience managing complex employment issues
* Strong IT skills for managing and reporting complex performance data
* Experience in cross-site operational/clinical working
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
* Strategic, tactical, and creative thinking and planning, with prioritization skills
* Ability to manage and deliver services within resources
