A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an RF Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering department to support the research, design and testing of advanced radio-frequency technology for integration into complex defence systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Research, design and development of RF circuits and sub-systems for advanced defence applications
* Hands-on modification, rework and rapid prototyping of RF hardware at component and board level
* Design and execution of RF design proving tests, trials and investigations within an onsite laboratory environment
* Carrying out fault finding, troubleshooting and performance optimisation of RF circuits
* Supporting integration of RF designs into larger electronic and weapon system architectures
* Producing clear technical documentation, test reports and design justifications
* Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and deliver programme objectives
The ideal candidate would have:
* Proven practical RF design and test experience across a wide frequency range (approximately 30MHz to 30GHz)
* Experience designing RF circuits such as LNAs, high power amplifiers, filters, local oscillators, synthesisers and modulators
* Strong hands-on laboratory skills, including soldering, rework and component-level modifications
* Experience using RF test equipment including spectrum analysers, power meters and VNAs
* Knowledge of RF design tools and layout packages (for example, Microwave Office or equivalent)
* Good understanding of digital, analogue and power supply design principles
The ideal candidate must have:
* Experience designing RF hardware for harsh environments, including EMC, vibration and thermal considerations
* Ability to independently plan and execute laboratory tests and trials
* Strong understanding of design for manufacture and design for test principles
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present problems, solutions and results to both technical teams and customers
* A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a genuine passion for electronic and RF engineering
