The Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the hands-on design of solutions, overseeing the mechanical design of products while implementing de-risking and design proving techniques to ensure the design is fit for purpose, compliant with all technical and legislative requirements, and suitable for manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce 3D solid models such as SolidWorks, detail drawings, general arrangement drawings, and bills of materials to support conceptual design and manufacturing.
* Create necessary design documentation to support the project, including performance calculations, FEA, test plans, and material and component selection justifications.
* Ensure the mechanical design's technical compliance with customer specifications, including safety and legislative standards.
* Collaborate with electrical engineers to develop fully integrated solutions.
* Work with manufacturing, assembly, and testing teams to incorporate lessons learned and improve designs.
* Follow the design process to ensure all mitigations and approvals are obtained at the appropriate stages.
* Generate change documentation, present justifications, and understand configuration management and change processes.
Accountabilities
* The Mechanical Design Engineer is accountable for delivering technical solutions that meet the design requirements specified in the technical documentation and ensure the product is suitable for manufacture, assembly, and testing.
Skills And Qualifications
* Experience in electrical or electronic design, including integrating electrical solutions into mechanical designs.
* Experience in management roles, leading projects or small teams.
