BODYSHOP FOREMAN
Location of the Bodyshop Foreman / Bodyshop Supervisor / Bodyshop Technician / Workshop Controller / Workshop Foreman: Dunstable
Salary of the Bodyshop Foreman / Bodyshop Supervisor / Bodyshop Technician / Workshop Controller / Workshop Foreman: Starting at £35K + upwards - Depending on experience and qualifications
Role Purpose
To lead and supervise the day-to-day operation of the bodyshop, ensuring all vehicle repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The Bodyshop Foreman will coordinate workshop activities, manage technician workloads, oversee repair quality, and support the Workshop Manager in delivering an effective, productive, bodyshop operation.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with effective leadership skills to maximise workshop productivity, minimise vehicle downtime, and maintain excellent standards of workmanship and health and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities of the Bodyshop Foreman / Bodyshop Supervisor / Senior Bodyshop Technician / Workshop Controller / Workshop Foreman:
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of bodyshop technicians and support staff.
Allocate work effectively based on technician skill levels, repair priorities, and workshop capacity.
Inspect damaged vehicles and determine appropriate repair methods and estimated repair times.
Monitor repair progress to ensure jobs are completed within agreed timescales and quality standards.
Conduct quality control inspections throughout the repair process and prior to vehicle release.
Support the preparation and review of repair estimates, labour requirements, and material costs.
Ensure all job cards, repair records, and workshop documentation are completed accurately and updated promptly.
Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding work in progress, productivity, staffing requirements, and operational issues.
Coordinate with parts departments and suppliers to ensure the timely availability of parts and materials.
Manage relationships with external repairers.
Assist in prioritising repairs relating to operational fleet requirements.
Monitor workshop efficiency, technician performance, and labour utilisation.
Ensure all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, company procedures, and industry best practices.
Promote and enforce compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and safe working practices.
Support the training, development, and mentoring of technicians and apprentices.
Investigate and resolve technical repair issues and provide guidance to workshop personnel.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop organisation.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Workshop Manager.
Skills & Experience of the Bodyshop Foreman / Bodyshop Supervisor / Bodyshop Technician / Workshop Controller / Workshop Foreman:
Essential
Previous experience in a Bodyshop Foreman, Senior Panel Technician, Workshop Controller, or similar supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of vehicle body repair techniques, accident damage repair, and bodyshop processes.
Ability to supervise and motivate workshop teams.
Excellent organisational and workload management skills.
Strong understanding of repair estimating and workshop productivity measures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a workshop environment.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
ATA accreditation or equivalent body repair qualification.
Experience working within a commercial fleet or accident repair environment.
Knowledge of insurance repair procedures and claims processes.
