We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scheme Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting insurance risks within delegated authority schemes, specifically focusing on the third sector (charities, non-profits, and voluntary organisations). You will assess, analyse, and price risks, ensuring the profitability and sustainability of the schemes while providing excellent service to our brokers and clients. Key responsibilities Underwriting and Risk Assessment: Evaluate new business applications and renewal requests in accordance with underwriting guidelines and delegated authority levels. Assess the specific risks associated with third sector organisations, including but not limited to: Public liability Employee and Volunteer protection Trustee indemnity Professional indemnity Property damage Legal Expenses Analyse and interpret information from various sources, including application forms, risk surveys, and financial statements. Determine appropriate terms, conditions, and premiums based on risk assessment. Refer complex or high-risk cases to the underwriting manager or insurers as necessary. Scheme Management: Manage and develop delegated authority schemes with insurers. Monitor the performance of schemes, including loss ratios, premium income, and expenses. Identify trends and potential issues within the portfolio and recommend corrective actions. Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures. Conduct regular audits of delegated authority arrangements with brokers. Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, providing them with underwriting support, guidance, and training. Act as a point of contact for brokers on underwriting matters, resolving queries and issues promptly and efficiently. Collaborate with internal teams, including broking, claims, and business development, to ensure the smooth operation of schemes and the delivery of excellent service. Represent the company at meetings, conferences, and industry events as required. Product Development: Contribute to the development and enhancement of insurance products and schemes for the third sector, based on market analysis and client needs. Work with insurers to negotiate policy wordings and coverage enhancements. Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation, regulations, and best practices related to insurance in the third sector. Knowledge, skills and experience Proven experience in delegated authority schemes. Strong understanding of insurance principles, practices, and regulations. Experience of underwriting risks associated with the third sector is highly desirable. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong numeracy and statistical skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with brokers and insurers. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Progress towards DipCII qualification is preferred. Cert CII as a minimum.
