Position: Part-Time / Daily Cover Teaching Assistant (Specialist SEND)
Location: Peterlee / nearby (willingness to travel / driver preferred)
Hours: Flexible daily cover slots / part-time hours during term time
Start date: As soon as available
About the role
We are seeking a reliable and flexible TA to provide daily cover across classes and key support areas in a specialist SEND setting (ages 2–19). You will step into existing routines, support pupils’ emotional regulation, assist in lessons or therapy sessions, and help maintain calm, predictable environments.
Main duties
* Cover classrooms or small groups when regular staff are unavailable.
* Support pupils in following structured routines, using visual supports and sensory breaks.
* Assist with behavioural support using de-escalation and self-soothing techniques.
* Aid personal care, movement or communication as needed.
* Liaise with staff to ensure continuity, brief handovers and consistent approach.
What we’re looking for
* Some experience (or genuine interest) working in SEND or special settings.
* Calm, adaptable, resilient, with good rapport with children and young people.
* Flexible approach to cover hours and willingness to travel.
* Enhanced DBS (child & adult) or willingness to obtain.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
