Start Date: March 2026

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and skilled Teacher of Design Technology, with a specialism in Resistant Materials, to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision for young people aged 11–18.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering and developing a high-quality, practical Design Technology curriculum within a growing school environment. The successful candidate will help shape a curriculum that develops technical confidence, creativity, independence and employability skills through engaging, hands‑on learning.

The Role

The successful candidate will teach across the following areas:

* KS3 Design Technology (Resistant Materials)
* KS4 Design Technology
* KS3 Computing

This role offers the opportunity to develop practical learning experiences that build problem‑solving skills, resilience and pride in craftsmanship, while also helping students explore pathways into construction, engineering, product design and skilled trades.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

* Has strong subject knowledge in Resistant Materials
* Can deliver engaging, safe and technically rigorous practical lessons
* Has excellent workshop management and health & safety awareness
* Can prepare students for appropriate KS4 qualifications (Entry Level, Level 1, GCSE or Level 2 equivalents)
* Sees Design Technology as a subject that can build confidence, aspiration and character

Working in an SEMH Environment

Experience working with young people with SEND and SEMH needs is essential.

Staff work within a trauma‑informed and restorative approach to behaviour, recognising the importance of both academic progress and emotional development.

Teachers should be able to:

* Remain calm and responsive during moments of dysregulation
* Use effective de‑escalation strategies
* Apply approaches such as emotion coaching, nurture principles and zones of regulation
* Deliver learning that supports both personal development and academic achievement

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact by delivering practical, purposeful education that helps young people build the skills and confidence they need for their future.

We are looking for someone who is collaborative, committed and passionate about supporting young people to succeed, both academically and personally.

We are committed to safeguarding children. Each applicant will be expected to undertake compliance checks including Prohibited list, Barred list, DBS and Qualifications.
