Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor to work in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics on a fixed term, 12 month contract. The post will involve outpatient and theatre sessions and successful applicants will join a team of Consultants and a dynamic medical and nursing team. Please note MRCS or equivalent is an essential requirement for this post, CCT or CESR would also be desirable. There may be opportunities to facilitate independent clinics and theatre lists. Available options will be explored further following a review of the successful candidate's skill set and level of experience. Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day management of orthopaedic patients under post‑holder's consultant's care.
* Care of out‑patients, including the conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant.
* To undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
* The post‑holder is expected to participate in the management of the Department, especially in ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement(s) are made, when necessary, and supervising the day‑to‑day clinical work of the SHO's and FY2's in the department.
* They will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital's Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patient's under the care of the consultant for whom they are working at the time.
* Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time.
* Participate in and contribute towards the teaching programme of medical and non‑medical staff e.g.; journal clubs, tutorials, lectures, clinical meetings.
* May need recognised training approval from the Clinical Tutor/College for training SHOs.
* Keep up‑to‑date records to satisfy continuous professional development requirements.
* Assist in Trust clinical risk management requirements.
* Undertake research, if desired, as directed by supervising consultant for the directorate.
* Clinical Management duties as delegated and agreed by the lead clinician or clinical director.
About the Department
All Orthopaedic Surgery, inpatient and outpatient services are provided at Harrogate District Hospital, except for those outpatients seen at Ripon Community Hospital and Outreach sites in Leeds. There are five main theatres, three of which are equipped for orthopaedic and prosthetic work with laminar flow air exchange. The Orthopaedic service is led by Mr Edward Powell-Smith, with a team of 13 Orthopaedic Consultants and 2 Orthogeriatric Consultants. The Directorate team are supported by an Operational Director, General Manager, Matrons and representation from Human Resources, Information Services and associated Finance Manager.
