We are seeking a Founding Mechanical Engineer to join us in San Francisco and lead the end-to-end mechanical design of our wheeled humanoid robot to get it to being production ready. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to build a truly exceptional, deployment ready, robot.
Location & Working Setup:
You must be willing to relocate to San Francisco by March 30 and work in-person from a shared live/work environment. We call it a hacker house. It’s a focused, high-output environment built around shipping. We can help with visas if you are from the UK or EU.
What you will own:
* End-to-end mechanical and structural design of a wheeled humanoid robot from prototype through production-ready hardware.
* CAD design of core systems: chassis, drivetrain, actuation mounts, structural members, enclosures, and interfaces.
* Structural analysis using first-principles hand calculations and FEA to validate strength, stiffness, fatigue, and safety margins.
* Mechanical–electrical–mechatronic integration in close collaboration with electronics and controls engineers.
* Supplier and manufacturer engagement: part sourcing, fabrication methods, tolerances, and iteration with vendors.
* Translation of product and industrial design requirements into robust mechanical solutions.
* Ownership of mechanical documentation: CAD, manufacturing drawings, GD&T, assembly procedures, design reviews, and BOMs.
* Rapid prototyping, physical build support, and hands-on debugging of real hardware.
What we are looking for:
* Obsessed with building robots and upholding excellence in their work.
* Exceptional at using CAD, preferably Fusion or SolidWorks.
* Strong fundamentals in mechanics, structures, materials, and tolerance analysis.
* Proven ability to take a system from concept to manufacturable hardware.
* Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with minimal process overhead.
* Clear technical communication and strong cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Required:
* A portfolio of your previous work and projects (we put a tremendous amount of value on this).
* Experience with humanoid, legged, or mobile robotic platforms.
* Experience with actuators, drivetrains, gearboxes, bearings, and structural composites or lightweight metals.
* Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods (CNC, sheet metal, waterjet, additive manufacturing).
* Experience supporting builds, testing, and field iteration.
* Strong interest in robotics as a deployed, real-world system.
We move fast. If you meet the bar and can relocate by March 30, 2026, apply now.
