Assistant Museum Officer
South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture are looking for an Assistant Museum Officer to be a key member of the museum development team. The successful applicant will support, develop and help deliver all aspects of collections care for a large, local authority museum collection, including processing acquisitions, cataloguing, inventory, collections research, exhibition development, and identifying and obtaining funding to deliver collections development projects in line with organisational and sector priorities.

Hours & Shift Pattern
35 hours per week, 2‑week rota:
* Week 1: Monday‑Friday, 9 am – 5 pm (1 hour unpaid break)
* Week 2: Tuesday‑Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm (1 hour unpaid break)
Salary and Duration
Salary Band: £20,001 – £30,000
Duration: Fixed term until 29 September 2026
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should hold a postgraduate museum qualification or be educated to degree level and have a minimum of one year’s museum experience. Holding a valid driving licence is desirable.
* Knowledge of working to sector standards and guidelines such as SPECTRUM and the Museum Accreditation Scheme is essential.
* Good written communication and report writing skills.
* Experience with a museum collections management system is desirable.
* Knowledge of British/Scottish military history is desirable.
Assessment Process
The successful candidate will be determined through a competency‑based interview and a short, practical exercise in collections handling.
