Role Summary
In response to ongoing organisational restructuring and strategic transformation, our Client is seeking an experienced Head of Highways to lead and shape their highways services. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to drive operational excellence, lead change initiatives, and work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure the delivery of sustainable and efficient highway infrastructure. Responsibilities
* Direct and oversee the entire Highways service, ensuring effective management of teams and resources.
* Lead the delivery of road maintenance programs and major highways projects, ensuring they meet quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
* Drive and support service-wide restructuring, contributing to transformation initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness.
* Collaborate with elected officials, senior stakeholders, and partner organisations to align objectives and facilitate projects.
* Set strategic direction for the service, balancing long-term planning with hands-on operational oversight.
* Maintain an active understanding of frontline service delivery to inform strategic decisions and improvements.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience managing highways within a local authority or similar public sector organisation.
* Demonstrable leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a collaborative team environment.
* Strong background in strategic planning, operational delivery, and navigating political environments.
* Experience leading change management initiatives, particularly during restructuring or organisational transformation.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Knowledge of infrastructure risk management and sustainability practices.
* Experience working with elected members and community stakeholders.
* Previous involvement in large-scale highway improvement projects or programmes.
