Design Engineer / Technician
Reporting to the Head of Engineering
Key Responsibilities
* Design and manufacture a variety of refrigerated goods trailers, rigid body conversions and van conversions, from initial concept through to production-ready solutions.
* Ensure all product designs adhere to the latest transportation regulations and standards, conducting necessary research to stay up to date on legislative changes.
* Collaborate closely with sales, purchasing, sub-contractors, and production teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet both customer and manufacturing requirements.
* Take ownership of assigned design projects, managing timelines, resources, and deliverables to guarantee successful and timely completion.
* Provide technical support for the sales department by preparing detailed customer quote drawings and developing innovative solutions to meet bespoke client needs.
* Drive ongoing improvement initiatives in both product design methods and production procedures, identifying and implementing opportunities for increased efficiency, quality, safety or innovation.
* Adopt a hands-on approach to problem solving, proactively identifying challenges during the design and manufacturing process and developing effective solutions.
* Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, CAD drawings, and compliance records for all engineered products.
* Routinely visit various local production sites to assist in design clarification or probleM solving activities.
Person Profile
* Holds a relevant engineering qualification (e.g., degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field).
* Experience in vehicle conversion, trailer design, or related fields, with a portfolio of previous projects or designs preferred.
* Knowledge of applicable regulations, safety standards, and compliance processes, ideally within the refrigerated or commercial vehicle sector.
* Proficient in using CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, or similar) to create accurate technical drawings and 3D models.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical information to non technical colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
