Your new company A large, forward-thinking public sector housing provider is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Housing Repairs & Maintenance to lead its repairs service and ensure residents receive high-quality, safe, and responsive maintenance across a diverse housing portfolio. Your new role As the Head of Housing Repairs & Maintenance, you will take strategic and operational responsibility for all repairs and maintenance functions, overseeing a broad programme of planned and reactive works. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive service performance, and embed a culture of continuous improvement.You will: Provide leadership across the repairs and maintenance services, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, customer-focused outcomes. Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies and programmes that ensure all homes are safe, compliant and well maintained. Oversee budget management across substantial revenue and capital budgets, ensuring value for money and adherence to financial and procurement regulations. Lead and inspire managers and operational teams, promoting professional development and a high-performance culture. Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, stakeholders, and resident groups to enhance service delivery. Ensure adherence to housing legislation, safety standards, and relevant statutory requirements. Produce high-quality reports, briefings, KPIs and service insights for senior leaders and committees. Manage risk, business continuity planning and safeguarding responsibilities within the service. Drive innovation, service transformation and continuous improvement across all repairs functions. What you'll need to succeed You will be an experienced senior professional with: Extensive knowledge of housing repairs & maintenance and the relevant statutory frameworks. Proven experience leading large-scale repairs and maintenance services, ideally within a local authority or social housing provider. Strong financial acumen and experience managing multimillion-pound budgets. Excellent leadership capabilities with experience managing operational teams and senior managers. Strong contract management experience and the ability to drive contractor performance. Knowledge of health and safety compliance, asset management principles and maintenance systems. Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Relevant qualifications such as a degree in Construction, Housing, Engineering or related field and/or professional membership (CIH, RICS).
