We're happy to discuss flexible working. If you'd like to, please indicate your preference in the application – though there's no obligation to do so now. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE ITACU (Interactive Technical Advice and Contracts Unit) provides end to end support for all UK public service content competitions, votes, awards and charity calls to action. Interactive Production Managers share technology best practice with programme makers and commissioners, monitor and assist in resolution ensuring BBC remains compliant and keeps the hard-earned trust of our audiences. Our work means the only drama is which on-air finalists get the answer first to win their dream gig tickets, the only suspense is the tension pause before the winner of Strictly is revealed.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Working across TV, radio and online from national to local, with all commissioned programme makers and commissioner means every project is different. Teamworking is key to our success – we look out for each other as we support the broadcaster. Strong communication and networking skills are developed as we work with many external productions, internal teams and support areas with agile, rapid problem solving informing our decisions and advice. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: Interactive Production Managers lead on our first line and ongoing support with each service, working closely with the programme makers and others to deliver a robust and compliant audience engagement.

Understanding the editorial requirements ensures we can ensure an appropriate technical solution is advised, along with appropriate and sufficient contingencies.

A good knowledge in the internal and external regulatory framework is applied to each service, with recommendations around technology and methodology to meet these requirements and follow best practice.

Engaging with other areas within BBC (including colleagues in Technology & Media Operations, Product, Legal, CRBA, Information Security, Data Privacy, Insurance, Marketing & Audiences) and external (such as industry bodies, production companies, BBC’s charities and commercial subsidiaries, service providers and verifiers engaged by ITACU) is essential, varying between projects as is maintenance of ITACU’s good reputation and working relationships.

As a compliance unit our audit system needs to be kept up to date for each service, we maintain records so they can be reviewed internally or externally and are ready for third party inspection.

Ultimately it is about maintaining the trust in us with our audiences – when they vote on Strictly the result is robust, whether or not their favourite won. We facilitate fun, engaging content that meets all BBC’s broadcast needs. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The role will require an understanding of current audience engagement service types available through the BBC, other public service broadcasters and the wider media market. Experience in interactive services is a pre-requisite and an understanding of multiple platforms is preferable.

Interactivity may be promoted across live or pre-recorded TV, radio, online, social media platforms or combinations of multiple outputs, so an understanding of the compliance and regulatory requirements associated with each media is required in this role.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

An in-depth, up to date knowledge of interactive technologies/platforms is essential.

Experience in managing technical and compliance risk including escalation procedures, planning, implementing mitigating action and ensuring contingencies are in place in the event of issues arising.

Strong leadership skills will be required as well as a demonstrable proactive approach to ensure the highest technical standards and ongoing compliance of the unit. In particular leading the live vote room environment requires quick and accurate responses to developing dynamic scenarios. This requires pressured application of all these skills described in this section.

Strong analytical skills with regards to evaluating the authenticity of a result (be it advising on winner selection or judging the validity of an online vote).

Proven experience in delivering projects/services in highly pressurised environments with multiple stakeholders preferably in a live studio environment.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

Project management qualifications and experience.

Data analytics or statistics qualifications and experience

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply. Disclaimer
