The post holder will act as an experienced Advanced HPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to provide continuous and comprehensive Pathology services, aiding effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. They will assist in delivering a high-quality, cost-effective clinical service and support the development of the service in line with departmental objectives.

The post holder will provide training and quality management expertise in Cellular Pathology to the NCA, working flexibly across NCA sites. They will have particular responsibility for staff training (including competencies, registration, and specialist portfolio candidates) and quality management. The post holder will also serve as a member of the senior laboratory team, ensuring good governance and supporting the quality management system.

The Cellular Pathology service for NCA operates across two departments: Salford and Oldham. You will be mainly based at the Salford department but will support quality and training across the NCA.

The Cellular Pathology Department processes and reports approximately 98,000 histology requests per annum, covering Neurology, Dermatology, Breast, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Urology, and Respiratory specialties. Additionally, there are 10,000 diagnostic cytology and Andrology service requests.

Your responsibilities include managing and coordinating daily activities for staff training and overseeing the department's quality management system. You will train, develop, and assess staff competencies, analyze and interpret results, and ensure the standard and quality of results. You will participate in technical activities requiring advanced and specialist knowledge, processing biomedical specimens accordingly.

You will proactively manage the throughput of the department, maintain registration as a biomedical scientist in line with HCPC standards, and serve as the training manager for the department. When required, you will deputise for the Cellular Pathology Operations Manager.
