The Team at The Spa Surgery are a looking for an enthusiastic,innovative and committed 4 to 6 Session GP to join our friendly, high achieving team incentral Harrogate. We are a successful GMS,SystmOne Practice with a list size of 14,000.

As a four partner and nine (51 sessions) salaried GP practice we work with an excellent practice team including:

* ACPs
* Nurses, NAs & HCAs
* Physiotherapists (FCPs)
* Social Prescriber
* Patient Services & Admin Support teams.

The practice has a reputation for being forwardthinking with a strong focus on our quality of care. We achieved a 'Good' CQCrating in all areas in 2026. We have high QoF achievement and hold MDTs for diabetes, palliative care, mental health & safeguarding. We are a 'Research Ready' Practice.

We embrace assistive technology and use Ardens Templates, e-Consult for our consult platform, AccuRx for messaging and Heidi to assist consultations. We have been named as a trailblazer by SystmOne for our work on our automated protocol for hypertension which is now available on the platform.

We are an award-winning practice, hosting placements for undergraduate medical students and GP registrars and providing opportunities to our staff through pharmacy technician and nurse associate apprenticeships.

We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified GPs with salary negotiable, dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

We care for individuals across a wide range of settings including specialist homes for people with learning disabilities and long-term mental health conditions, nursing and residential homes. We are local leaders in the care of homeless people, both informally and through our long-standing work at Springboard, a local day centre for homeless people. You will have the opportunity to gain or develop experience in all of these areas.

As a training practice, you will have the opportunity to develop your teaching skills with our GP registrars and undergraduate medical students. You will be supported in the development of a specialist interest and have the opportunity to become a key player in our plans for the future.

Job responsibilities

JOBDESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: SALARIEDGENERAL PRACTITIONER - 4 to 6 Sessions

REPORTS TO: ThePartners (Clinically)

ThePractice Manager (Administratively)

HOURS: Sessional(4 hours 10 mins)

Job summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal witha wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the higheststandards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities:

* In accordance with the practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake avariety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultationsand queries, clinical support GP (on rota basis), same-day and routine clinics, home visits,checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
* Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred fromother health care workers within the organisation
* Assessing the health care needs of patientswith undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* Screening patients for disease risk factorsand early signs of illness
* In consultation with patients and in linewith current practice disease management protocols, developing care plansfor health
* Providing counselling and health education
* Admitting or discharging patients to and fromthe caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
* Recording clear and contemporaneousconsultation notes to agreed standards
* Compiling and issuing computer-generatedacute and repeat prescriptions
* Prescribing in accordance with the practiceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinicallyappropriate
* In general the post-holder will be expectedto undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with aGP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

* Awareness of and compliance with all relevantpractice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, safeguarding,confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
* A commitment to life-long learning and auditto ensure evidence-based best practice
* Contributing to teaching undergraduatemedical students; junior doctors and other members of the clinical team
* Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinicalstandard setting within the organisation
* Contributing to a clear and complete electronic patient record
* Attending training and events organised bythe practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

* In the performance of the duties outlined inthis job description, the post-holder may have access to confidentialinformation relating to patients and their carers, practice staff andother healthcare workers. They mayalso have access to information relating to the practice as a businessorganisation. All such information from any source is to be regardedas strictly confidential
* Information relating to patients, carers,colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice mayonly be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practicepolicies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection ofpersonal and sensitive data.

Health& safety:

Thepost-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and managementtheir own and others health & safety and infection control as defined inthe practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection controlpolicy and published procedures. Thiswill include (but will not be limited to):

* Usingpersonal security systems within the workplace according to practiceguidelines
* Awarenessof national standards of infection control and cleanliness andregulatory/contractual/professional requirements and good practiceguidelines
* Providingadvice on the correct and safe management of the specimens processincluding collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and cleancontainers, storage and transport arrangements
* Correctpersonal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correctuse of PPE by others, advising on appropriate circumstances (e.g. pandemicor individual infectious circumstances)
* Handhygiene standards for self and others
* Managingdirectly all incidents of accidental exposure
* Managementand advice relating to infection control and clinically based patient careprotocols and implementation of those protocols across the practice
* Activeobservation of current working practices across the practice in relationto infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring thatprocedures are followed and weaknesses/training needs are identified,escalating issues as appropriate to the responsible person
* Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in away that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
* Makingeffective use of training to update knowledge and skills and initiate andmanage the training of others across the full range of infection controland patient processes
* Monitoringpractice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control,ensuring that proper use is made of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etcand that these are sufficient to ensure a good clinical workingenvironment. Lack of facilities tobe escalated as appropriate to the responsible manager
* Safemanagement of sharps use, storage and disposal
* Maintenanceof own clean working environment
* Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintain work areas in a tidy,clean and sterile and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial/corrective actionwhere needed or escalation to responsible management.
* Activelyidentifying, reporting and correction of health & safety hazards andinfection hazards immediately when recognised
* Keepingown work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, sterile,identifying issues and hazards/risks in relation to other work areaswithin the business and assuming responsibility in the maintenance ofgeneral standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation(where appropriate) with responsible managers
* Undertakingperiodic infection control training (minimum twice annually)
* Correctwaste and instrument management including handling, segregation and
* Maintenanceof sterile environments

Qualifications

* MBBS, MBChB, BM, MB BCh
* GP Registration
* MRCGP
* Postgraduate qualification or special interest in any of the following areas:
* Geriatric Medicine
* Diabetes
* Respiratory Medicine
* Cardiology
* Substance mis-use


Experience

* An understanding of General Practice management
