Job Description:
Are you a qualified accountant with a sharp commercial mind and a passion for driving financial performance? Were looking for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of a companys finance function, partnering closely with the senior leadership team to provide strategic insight and hands-on financial management.
About the Role
This is a key position offering full responsibility for the finance function, including monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance. You'll manage a small team and play a pivotal role in ensuring financial accuracy, cashflow stability, and the integrity of internal processes. The role provides regular exposure to Board-level decision-making and is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all aspects of the finance function
* Prepare detailed monthly management accounts and present key insights to the Board
* Manage cashflow and prepare short- and long-term forecasts
* Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including statutory accounts and audit preparation
* Maintain accurate control accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and journals (prepayments, accruals, depreciation, etc.)
* Process monthly payroll, tax submissions, and pension contributions
* Oversee R&D tax claims and Innovate UK claim submissions
* Ensure VAT compliance and submit quarterly VAT returns
* Develop financial models for forecasting and variance analysis
* Liaise with external partners including accountants, HMRC, pension providers, and banks
* Drive continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and reporting
What Youll Bring
* Fully qualified (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA)
* Strong understanding of statutory accounts, VAT, WIP, and long-term contract accounting
* Experience with Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Payroll
* A detail-oriented approach and ability to meet deadlines
* Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial matters
* Background in audit or practice
* Experience working with group structures and Innovate UK projects
