Equality Enterprise Ltd is recruiting Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Support Tutors to work with Higher Education students, offering face to face sessions. The position offers flexible hours to work around you, whilst helping to make a difference to students' educational experiences.

We are looking for tutors who can offer face-to-face sessions for our students studying in the Kingston area, supporting students in managing the demands of studying at the University.

We currently have vacancies for Specialist one to one study skills tutors – (SS-ASC and SS-SpLD) who can offer face-to-face and remote sessions to support students with autism and dyslexia on a one-to-one basis in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report, course requirements, and learning preferences.

As a study skills tutor you will work closely with students with autism and university students with specific learning difficulties to support them on their academic journey. You will encourage their independence and help them develop skills such as essay planning, note-taking, study plans and time management.

We are a DSA registered provider of NMH support to students in Higher Education.

According to Department for Education, mandatory qualification requirements to deliver Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) fundable Non-Medical Help (NMH) roles, the details of the roles are as mentioned below.

Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support – Specific Learning Difficulties (SS-SPLD):

This specialist one to one support focuses on helping students to develop study skills and strategies to work effectively in a higher education context in the presence of their condition. This support can be recommended for students with an SpLD, and also by exception in cases where a student has another condition which has an impact on their learning similar to that of an SpLD (e.g. an acquired brain injury).

This support should be tailored to a student's individual needs, and tutors delivering this role should set out clear goals and timescales for achieving these goals.

A reducing level of support to enable independence should be agreed, upon where it is appropriate.

Tutors undertaking this role should have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the effects of SpLDs on language and learning in a higher education context, together with an awareness of the strengths which students with these conditions can bring to a learning situation and the skills to help students make use of these strengths and overcome barriers to learning. An understanding of relevant assistive technology (AT) is also desirable.

Qualification:

To deliver this role you must have professional membership of one of the following. It is essential that memberships are kept up to date.

1. The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)

2. Full - Specialist teacher/assessor qualified.

3. Associate membership - Specialist teacher qualified.
4. Affiliate Professional - Practitioner Psychologist

5. British Dyslexia Association (BDA)

6. AMBDA - Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association

7. AMBDA FE/HE - Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association Further and Higher Education
8. Professional Membership

9. The Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE)

10. Professional QA Tutor membership

Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support – Autism Spectrum Conditions (SS-ASC):

The Specialist one-to-one study skills and strategy support autism (SS:ASC) role can be recommended for students with autism spectrum conditions (ASC), attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

This specialist one-to-one support focuses on helping students to develop study skills and strategies to work effectively in a higher education context in the presence of their condition. It should be tailored to a student's individual needs, and support workers delivering this role should set clear goals and timescales for achieving these goals. A reducing level of support to enable independence should be agreed, where it is appropriate.

Support workers undertaking this role should have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of autistic thinking and learning, together with an awareness of the strengths which students with these conditions can bring to a learning situation and the skills to help students make use of these strengths and overcome barriers to learning.

Qualification:

Holds any undergraduate degree.

AND a teaching qualification

AND Comprehensive training in adult autism.
