Job overview
To work as an autonomous practitioner within the Physiotherapy Team in a Specialist MSK role at Furness General Hospital. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice for colleagues with standalone or work‑related MSK disorders, and advising on workplace adjustments.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessment of complex physical, psychological and social problems, using advanced clinical reasoning to provide accurate diagnosis and treatment.
* Formulate individual treatment plans based on evidence‑based practice, reassess patients’ progress and adjust plans as required.
* Demonstrate high‑level physical skill, including manual techniques and therapeutic handling.
* Provide ergonomic workplace assessments, return‑to‑work programmes, and recommend ergonomic solutions.
* Contribute to and lead Health Promotion and specialist MSK areas within Occupational Health and Wellbeing.
* Maintain effective communication with colleagues and record care in line with trust and professional codes.
* Participate in research, audit, and proactive services to reduce referrals to OH&WB and prevent MSK absences.
Main duties of the job
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
* Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessment of complex physical problems that may include psychological and social aspects.
* Formulate and carry out treatment plans, respecting patients’ privacy, dignity and individuality. Reassess and adjust as required.
* Demonstrate advanced physical skills for assessment and intervention, including manual techniques.
* Provide ergonomic workplace assessments, return‑to‑work programmes and recommend ergonomic solutions.
* Contribute to Health Promotion within the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service and lead specialist MSK areas such as back care.

Education and qualifications
* BSc physiotherapy & HCPC registration
* CSP membership
Experience
* Evidence of core junior rotations within the NHS
* Involvement in service development through clinical audit and outcome measures
* Previous Band 6 MSK experience in the NHS
* Experience working as a physiotherapist within Occupational Health
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Apply the physiotherapy process for MSK assessment, interpretation, care planning, motivation, monitoring and evaluation of specialised treatment.
* Sound knowledge of relevant conditions and specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
* Work effectively within an MDT to achieve best practice for patients.
* Manage change across own service and wider MDT teams/services.
* Awareness of current NHS issues.
* Experience of working across organisational boundaries in health and social care.
