The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to join a growing manufacturing and food production business.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this is a standalone role with full responsibility for developing, implementing, and driving the company's Environmental, Health & Safety strategy across multiple operational sites.
This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact, shaping safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting operational excellence across both manufacturing and agricultural storage operations.
The Role
As Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant UK environmental, health and safety legislation while promoting a proactive culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the business.
Working closely with operational teams, engineering, and senior leadership, you will lead all EHS activities, manage audits and inspections, investigate incidents, and provide expert guidance on regulatory and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide Environmental, Health & Safety policies and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant UK legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
* Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
* Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
* Deliver engaging EHS training and awareness programmes across the workforce.
* Manage environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions control, and permit requirements.
* Monitor and report on EHS performance, KPIs, and compliance metrics.
* Liaise with external regulatory bodies including the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Environment Agency (EA).
* Support operational teams in driving a positive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Work closely with Process Engineering teams to ensure process safety requirements are met.
* Lead internal and external audits and ensure any actions are effectively implemented and closed out.
* Maintain EHS management systems, procedures, and documentation in line with recognised standards and best practice.
About You
We're looking for an experienced EHS professional who can operate independently while influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
You will have:
Essential
* Proven Environmental, Health & Safety management experience within manufacturing, food production, process manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment.
* Strong knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
* Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong organisational and project management capabilities.
* Experience working directly with regulatory bodies including the HSE and Environment Agency.
* A proactive and self-motivated approach with the ability to work autonomously.
Desirable
* NEBOSH Diploma, NEBOSH Certificate, IOSH or equivalent EHS qualification.
* Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Experience within food manufacturing or agricultural processing environments.
* Knowledge of recognised EHS management systems and international standards.
