Role Description
This full-time, on-site Patient Transport Ambulance Care Assistant role is based in Redhill. The post holder will safely transport patients to and from hospitals, care homes and private residences, ensuring comfort and dignity throughout each journey. Day-to-day tasks include assisting patients with boarding and alighting vehicles, using appropriate moving and handling techniques and equipment. The role involves monitoring patients during transport, providing reassurance, and escalating any concerns to clinical or control staff as required. The assistant will work closely with colleagues and healthcare professionals, complete journey documentation accurately, follow infection prevention and control procedures, and maintain vehicle cleanliness and basic equipment checks. The position requires flexible working patterns, weekends, in line with service needs.
Qualifications
* Ability to perform safe Manual Handling, including use of stretchers, wheelchairs and other patient-moving equipment.
* Strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication skills to build rapport with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
* Experience or training in Dementia Care and Caregiving, with a compassionate approach to people with cognitive or mobility challenges.
* Basic first aid awareness and willingness to undertake further clinical and safeguarding training relevant to patient transport.
* Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively in a team-based, shift-driven environment.
* Good level of physical fitness to manage the demands of lifting, transferring and assisting patients safely.
* Full, clean driving license suitable for ambulance or patient transport vehicles.
* Previous experience in healthcare, social care, patient transport or a customer-facing care role is an advantage but not essential if willing to learn.
