Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer

Play a key role in shaping policy and public affairs to strengthen hospice care in Northern Ireland.
Salary: £22,800 per annum based on 3 days/21 hours per week (Full‑time equivalent: £38,000 per annum)
Contract: Fixed‑term contract for two years. Part‑time role working 3 days (21 hours) per week.
Location: Northern Ireland; desk at Northern Ireland Hospice, Belfast. Eligible for Hospice UK Hybrid Working Arrangement from start of employment.
Full web‑based connectivity to the central office with regular opportunities to engage via email, face‑to‑face meetings, video calls, and telephone.
Because we work with decision makers in Stormont, an expectation to travel to Belfast at short notice may arise.
Occasional travel to London for departmental and organisational events.

Key Aspects of This Role
* Policy research, development and analysis—monitor policy and political developments in Stormont, analyse impact on hospices and people who need palliative care, brief colleagues and hospices, and prepare concise reports and briefing documents.
* Public affairs and campaigning—plan and deliver activities to achieve Hospice UK's strategic aims, react to political opportunities, engage with civil servants, parliamentarians and other stakeholders.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
* Act as a media spokesperson and represent Hospice UK at external events, meetings and conferences.
* Build relationships with hospices in Northern Ireland to understand their challenges and operational contexts.
Qualifications and Experience
• Experience in policy, public affairs, campaigns or a related field in Northern Ireland, with a good understanding of policy development and parliamentary processes.
• Excellent communication, influencing and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to quickly read, understand and respond to complex information.
