We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Carmarthenshire to assist with the appointment of a Workshop Technician on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £15.50 - £20.27 per hour

Summary:

Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking a skilled and versatile HGV Technician to join our fleet maintenance team. You will be responsible for the high-standard servicing, inspection, and repair of a diverse range of Council vehicles. This role goes beyond standard mechanics; you will be the technical lead on specialized equipment, including complex hydraulics and electrical systems for specialized vehicle bodies (e.g., refuse freighters, gritters, and plant machinery), ensuring the fleet remains safe, compliant, and operational.

Responsibilities:

* Carry out routine servicing, MOT preparations, and safety inspections (PMIs) in line with DVSA standards and Council policy.
* Diagnose and repair faults in hydraulic systems and electrical components specific to specialized vehicle bodies.
* Maintain accurate digital and paper-based service records to ensure the Council meets its Operator Licensing (O-Licence) obligations.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to COSHH, Manual Handling, and Workshop safety protocols at all times.
* Provide roadside assistance or recovery for broken-down fleet vehicles when required.

Qualifications:

* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Light or Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering is essential.

Essentials:

* Proven experience working with Heavy Goods Vehicles and specialized municipal equipment.
* Proficiency in using modern diagnostic software to troubleshoot engine management and braking systems (ABS/EBS).
* Previous experience working within a high-pressure fleet environment or local authority workshop is an advantage.
* Practical experience in repairing hydraulic rams, valves, and pumps found on refuse or lifting equipment.
* A valid Driving Licence (Minimum Category B).
