Electrical Design Engineer – Plymouth (Devonport Royal Dockyard) Location: Plymouth, Devon Hours: 50 hours per week (07:00 – 17:00) Contract: Long-term project Salary: Competitive, plus benefits Clearance: BPSS required (UK residency for past 5 years) About the Role Carmichael UK is recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading infrastructure project at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the most significant redevelopment programmes in the South West, working within a highly regulated and technically complex environment. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team of consultants and project professionals, supporting the electrical design and delivery of key infrastructure within a live MOD facility. Key Responsibilities Work within a multi-disciplinary design team to support project delivery on a high-security site. Review and comment on contractor and consultant electrical design documentation. Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure design coordination. Attend site and off-site meetings as required. Support problem-solving and contribute to innovative mechanical and electrical design solutions. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current design standards and regulations. Collaborate with external consultants, architects, civil and structural engineers to deliver coordinated designs. Support the project team with documentation, technical queries, and reporting. This is a hybrid role, typically working four days per week on-site and one day remotely. About You Qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, or MEng). Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, ideally within building services or large infrastructure. Strong understanding of design documentation and familiarity with tools such as Amtech, AutoCAD, and Revit. Excellent communication and coordination skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset. Desirable: Familiarity with RIBA and BSRIA Design Stage Deliverables. Experience working on projects within highly regulated or defence environments. Security Requirements Due to the nature of the project, BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance is required. Applicants must: Hold a valid passport from a NATO or MISWG member country.
