Come and join our friendly, supportive team making a difference to the lives of children and young people. NELFT is the largest provider of MHSTs in England. Our North East, Southend, Essex and Thurrock services cover 144 schools currently. The Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) deliver evidence‑based individual and group interventions for children aged 5 to 18 with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The South East Essex MHST covers Southend, Castlepoint, Rochford and Canvey Island, providing early intervention and prevention support.
Key Responsibilities
* Work in partnership with schools, children, families and partner agencies to develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes.
* Support the Locality Clinical Lead with formulation, treatment and management plans for schools, parents and children using specialist psychological interventions.
* Effectively manage a caseload of children, completing thorough assessments, risk assessments, care plans and reviews.
* Provide caseload management and supervision to Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners, Education Mental Health Practitioners and Senior Mental Health Practitioners.
* Deliver evidence‑based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and support the delivery of whole‑school approach models for mental health.
* Work as part of a Multi‑Disciplinary Team locally and with other MHSTs within Essex.
* Operate autonomously within a collaborative team environment.
Key Qualifications
* Senior clinical team member with a UK professional registration (HCPC, NMC, BABCP or equivalent).
* Experience leading and supervising in a clinical setting, with strong knowledge and practice of CBT.
* Enrolled on the Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Services supervisor course – training is funded by the MHST programme.
* Formal CBT training (e.g., Qualified CBT Therapist, IAPT, CYP‑IAPT) or substantial CAMHS experience with CPD in evidence‑based interventions.
* Full registration/accreditation with the appropriate professional or regulatory body.
* Access to a vehicle and ability to travel efficiently across the county.
Term & Conditions
The role is predominantly supervisory but includes clinical interventions to maintain professional registration. A probationary period applies, except for exempt internal applicants. New starters are inducted on the first Monday of each month, with up to two weeks of training and induction in Goodmayes, Essex.
