Role Overview
Gilmerton Care Home is based in the Moredun area of Edinburgh and provides nursing care for up to 60 residents.
The Care Home Assistant Practitioner role is a senior position within the care team, responsible for maintaining standards across the shift and supporting the delivery of safe, consistent and well organised care.
Responsibilities
This is a hands on role with leadership responsibility. The Care Home Assistant Practitioner will lead the shift, allocate tasks and ensure care is delivered in line with care plans and expected standards. This includes supporting with medication, maintaining accurate records and responding appropriately to changes in residents’ needs.
Alongside this, the role involves working closely with the team day to day, providing guidance, supporting less experienced staff and helping to maintain a consistent and organised approach across the home. Clear communication and the ability to prioritise are essential.
The Care Home Assistant Practitioner is expected to take responsibility during the shift, ensuring residents are supported appropriately, standards are maintained and any concerns are escalated where required.
Qualifications
The role requires an SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and medication training with competency. Previous experience leading or supporting a team within a care setting is essential, along with confidence in working with care plans and clinical documentation.
A calm, reliable and practical approach is important, as well as the ability to work closely with others and maintain standards in a busy environment.
