The role
Southern Housing is hiring a Resident Governance & Scrutiny Officer to join our Resident Engagement Team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about resident voice, confident in governance environments, and skilled at bringing people together to influence and improve services. This role sits at the heart of our Resident Engagement Strategy, ensuring residents can shape, scrutinise and strengthen the way we work.
You’ll be based in our Sittingbourne office, with the flexibility to work in a hybrid way as agreed with your manager. This role involves working in evening (on occasional basis) as and when required to ensure participation in our residents’ meetings and events.
What you'll be doing:
You’ll lead the day‑to‑day support for our resident governance structure, making sure residents have the tools, confidence and information they need to influence decision‑making. This includes:
* Support Regional and thematic Resident Panels and resident reps
* Plan and run accessible, well‑organised meetings
* Prepare agendas, papers, reports and meeting summaries
* Build strong relationships with chairs, senior staff, Board members and partners
* Provide one‑to‑one support to resident members, including development reviews
* Lead the assessment stage of resident recruitment
* Deliver and improve resident training sessions
* Promote digital inclusion and support residents to join meetings online
* Ensure compliance with governance policies, probity requirements and declarations
What you'll need:
* Experience in governance or scrutiny, with strong meeting‑facilitation and presentation skills
* Ability to use customer feedback to shape decisions and improve services
* Confident working inclusively with diverse residents and stakeholders and building effective relationships
* Strong communication, organisation and Microsoft Office skills
* Minute‑taking skills and report writing
* Ability to work under pressure with a positive, customer‑focused approach
* Useful background includes housing knowledge, resident involvement, training delivery, feedback and budget management
