Reports to: Head of Legal, Northgate Group
We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Solicitor to join our Group Legal function as Legal Counsel. You’ll be working alongside the Head of Legal and Senior Legal Counsel to support the Northgate Group businesses, including Northgate Vehicle Hire, Northgate Vehicle Sales, ChargedEV, FridgeXpress, and Blakedale.
This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you will work closely with multiple teams across the business to advise on commercial contracts and help the business to navigate complex legal issues whilst enabling growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including customer agreements, supplier terms, and service-level agreements.
* Advise on contract interpretation, risk mitigation, and legal implications of business decisions.
* Collaborate with internal teams including Sales, Procurement, Compliance, Product, Insurance and Finance to provide pragmatic legal advice.
* Manage relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring cost-effective and timely legal support.
* Contribute to the development of legal templates and internal training to improve legal awareness across the business.
* Utilise the company’s AI-enabled contract management platform to streamline contract workflows, enable the business to self-serve and improve efficiency.
* Support the business on bids and tenders, ensuring legal compliance and advising on risks.
About You
* Qualified Solicitor holding a practicing certificate with at least 3-5 years post qualification legal experience in commercial law as either an in-house or private practice Solicitor.
* Proven experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
* Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk and business needs.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across all levels of the business.
* A proactive mindset, capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities.
* Desirable but not essential: experience advising on public sector tenders, data protection, and fleet/mobility services.
