It is suitable for people at various stages of their career, including school leavers, graduates, those returning to work, or anyone seeking a meaningful and stable role.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Provide general business and admin support to keep daily operations running smoothly, including cash handling and dealing with financial transactions.
* Manage and organise information, including working with confidential data, documents, and records responsibly.
* Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for data entry, word processing, and communication tasks.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external customers to provide helpful, professional service.
* Help the team meet important deadlines through strong organisation and attention to detail.
* Utilise various software packages for data entry and extraction.

What Skills You Need

We are an organisation led by Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility, and we look for people who demonstrate these behaviours in daily life and work.

Responsibilities

We value skills developed through education, volunteering, caring responsibilities, and other life experiences. We will support you to grow and build confidence in the role. The following skills would be useful to bring or be willing to develop:

* Effective communication: Ability to interact with people both in writing and verbally.
* Tech-savvy: Comfortable with Microsoft Office and eager to learn new tools and digital skills.
* Working in a fast-paced environment: Able to manage own workload, tasks, and priorities in a busy office setting, with a good understanding of day-to-day admin processes.
* Organised: Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while handling high volumes of data with attention to detail.
* Customer focused: Professional, helpful approach to service delivery.
* Adaptable and flexible: Ability to adjust and problem-solve as priorities shift.
* Team player: Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organisation.
* Confidentiality: Ability to follow policies and procedures on the safe handling of sensitive information and data.

What We Offer

* Salary Sacrifice Schemes including Cycle to Work and car lease
* Access to discounts and savings on groceries, activities, eating out and shopping
* Capital Credit Union
* Local Government Pension Scheme
* Work-life balance and flexibility
* 27 days of annual leave plus 6 bank holidays
* Maternity and adoption pay
* Training and development opportunities
* Access to health and wellbeing support including counselling through our Employee Assistance Program

Further information

* There are no line management responsibilities associated with this role.
* The post will be based at South East Locality Office and The Access Place; however, the role may require the successful candidate to work at any Council location.
* The working hours are Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 17:00 and 08:30 to 15:55 on Fridays. The role is subject to flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work. We recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experiences and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation. We want to bring the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

We are changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new method will help us assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working. You can find more on Our Behaviours at Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annual increases until the top of the range. Happy to talk flexible working. Follow us on X at @edincounciljobs.
